History

Born 2131 in the medical centre of Lunar One Colony on Earth's Moon, Ethan's mother was a science teacher and his father a security officer. Both still live at the Colony, where his father is semi-retired. His older brother Marc is in Starfleet currently serving on the Nautilus.

He spent most of his childhood on the Moon, travelling to Earth for holidays or school trips. His Uncle Alan was a pilot and flew regularly from Earth to the Moon and around the wider solar system. From an early age Ethan showed a keen interest in physics and spaceflight so his parents often allowed him into his Uncles' care where he went on many cargo-runs and other low-risk assignments. He was often found reading science books, studying schematics or in his late teens manning the controls. His Uncle was his mentor and inspiration.

He joined Starfleet Academy in 2151 and graduated in 2155. At that time the terrorist group Terra Prime captured and relocated the Orpheus Mining Colony and later used the Mars verteron array to fire at the Moon. During this incident his Uncle was killed and the loss left Ethan devestated. His Uncle was his best friend. He delayed his career in Starfleet while his family mourned.

In 2156 he took up assignment on the Neptune Class ESS Nautilus and served there as beta-shift helmsman, eventually taking alpha-shift. Then in late '58 he was posted to the Sol Class ESS Amaterasu. Just a few months later the Amaterasu was sent into battle and he gained significant combat experience rising to Lieutenant Junior Grade. In August '60 he was reassigned again to the NX Class ESS Intrepid.

After Intrepid's mission to Jaren IV Ethan was unexpectedly appointed Commanding Officer and given a field promotion. Because of the escalating war with the Romulans and Intrepid's distant promixity to any available relief officer, Starfleet deemed him a risk worth taking. He led Intrepid as they tracked a hijacked dilithium freigter around the galaxy eventually stumbling upon a Romulan shipyard. With enemy forces massing in the Cheron system Intrepid and her allies were ordered to destroy the shipyard. Their mission was a success and upon returning to Earth, as the United Federation of Planets was formed, Ethan was promoted to Captain and appointed permanent Commanding Officer of the recommissioned USS Intrepid.
